fern: i considered suicide

Fern Britton has opened up in a revealing interview admitting she once seriously considered suicide after the birth of her children and the collapse of her first marriage.

‘I was bloody miserable. Suicidal….There were days I could hardly get out of bed. I was so seriously depressed I needed medication. ‘It was very tough,’ admits Fern to the Daily Mirror.

‘If I wasn’t such a coward I know I would have killed myself. I contemplated it very seriously. I remember sitting in the bath one day thinking ‘How many pills have I got in the bottle?’’

The This Morning presenter says it was her hubby Phil Vickery who helped her through her troubles.

‘I was halfway to falling apart. If it hadn’t been for Phil, God knows what would have happened,’ adds Fern.

The TV chef also helped his missus through the recent backlash following her gastric band op. Fern came under fire for not telling fans about her surgery and had to take time off work due to stress.

‘I did it for me – because I wanted to,’ adds Fern. ‘Without Phil I couldn’t have coped. My love for him is deeper than ever.’
