We are always on the lookout for exciting bands and musicians to share with you all and here is one that is very exciting!
First check out the video to their new single “HEARTBREAK” (an alternative valentines single) oooooh!
The single is out on 9th Feb by (Lover Records) - let us know what you think!
After an impressive and fast paced 2008, Rosie and The Goldbug bring you their next single ‘Heartbreak’. This soaring nu-pop anthem is a clear example of the band’s impressive song writing and all around pop genius. And with last single ‘You’ve Changed’ hitting number 6 in the club charts it’s likely the kids will be doing just that. As well as this chart success, they can also boast of a European tour with Cyndi Lauper, festival appearances including Latitude and Bestival ticked off the list, XFM and Absolute playlists, and support from 6 Music, Radio 1 and Radio 2 (‘Album of the Week’ on Dermot O Leary). Past videos can be found playlisted on Q, E4, 4 Music and NME TV and the video for ‘Heartbreak’ is expected to be no exception, this video captures the very essence of the fun within the band, featuring them perform in a seventies-style futuristic laser world.
Hailing from Cornwall, Rosie & The Goldbug formed in 2007, after enchanting lead vocalist Rosie, who had been away at Uni studying music, decided to return to her roots with the sole purpose of forming a band; “The course was all about studying mundane jazz modes and it made me realise I wanted to just write three chord pop tunes and rebel”. Fed up fronting a band “full of belchin’ n fartin’ lads who seemed intent on playing boring old indie-guitar wank”, Rosie saw an escape route when meeting utterly mesmerising female drummer Plums (previously of Japanese drumming group Kagemusha Taiko) for the first time. Joined by pounding bass player Pixie (her sister’s pointy-eared boyfriend – hence the elfish nickname), Rosie & The Goldbug are a razor-sharp three pronged trio to be reckoned with.
For their album Rosie & The Goldbug worked alongside producer Jim Eliot (he is one half of Kish Mauve the top electro duo whose track 2 Hearts was covered by Kylie Minogue). They have formed some impressive partnerships, co-writing with Marcella Detroit (formerly of Shakespear’s Sister) and Glasgow band El Presidente. For all her love of Kate Bush and Tori Amos, Rosie also loves cheesy Eighties nonsense and a bit of a party.
Live Nation (Madonna, Shakira) are already onboard showing direct support for the band and their leading international booking agents William Morris (The Killers, Alicia Keys, Bjork etc) also jumped on the band early after catching their impressive live set. Onward to 2009, it’s with this live set they’ve decided to make an example of this single and make it ‘AN ALTERNATIVE VALENTINES’ single. It comes with a hot as hell remix package containing a tech-trance rework from one of 2009’s one-to-watch, and Armin’s favourite producer of ‘08, Arnej, an anthemic trance version from one of the top DJ’s on the planet, Gareth Emery, as well as cracking housier mixes from the brilliant Digital Dog.
Heartbreak is a robo-disco throbber, propelled by a rich, sob-in-the-throat vocals from the front-woman, plus a beautifully evocative middle-eight built round cello (in the album version). ‘It’s actually about Plums when she came out about being a lezzer,’ says the spade’s-a-fricking-spade singer in this profoundly close-knit band. ‘And it was such a sweet moment, ‘cause it was all very hard for her - she actually thought we were gonna kick her out the band for it! And I just thought it was so beautiful - she blossomed into this little flower. So the lyrics are really basic but it’s all about saying, what does it matter? Nothing else matters but love.’
Wanting to be clear they are not ANTI- romance. Far from it, the band just believe that the whole commercial aspect of Valentines Day can be over hyped to line the pockets of the retailers and the essence of the symbolic meaning of the day is lost. They also feel that for younger kids it’s really disappointing when they don’t receive cards, or when someone they have a crush on gives a card to someone else. To them this is the end of the world, it’s rejecting, damaging and can have long term effect on these kids! But seriously the band feel that you should be romantic every day and are championing romance along with damning the system. And what better to do to avoid this day than get pissed up at their gig.
Rosie & The Goldbug present…‘Heartbreak’ an alternative Valentine night. The band will be hosting a night to celebrate their views of what Valentines should be at the Bloomsbury Bowling lanes on 13th Feb. With ‘interesting’ Rosie and the Goldbug style games for singles and couples alike. And wild things going on around the midnight hour….
As an added extra for this single, Rosie and the Goldbug are offering every fan who buys ‘Heartbreak’ the opportunity to have their name printed in the next print up of their album. All they need to do is e-mail their proof of purchase (which must be from the week of release only) to contact@rosieandthegoldbug.com and they will end up with an album dedication of their very own…
