MTV International have crowned Katy Perry queen of 2008 as the most played video across their channels. katyperry_award_vert_final2

The ‘I Kissed A Girl’ singer topped Leona Lewis’ record of 16,095 in the first half of 2008 by just under 5,000 plays.

Perry also bagged a platinum award for ‘Hot N Cold’ boasting 13,577 plays. Katy Perry said: “I can’t believe you watched me kiss a girl 21,863 times. I’m glad I got this plaque instead of chapped lips! Thanks MTV.”

Other acts topping the platinum video plays include Pink with ‘So What’ reaching 16,713 plays, Madonna with ‘Give It To Me’ at 16, 192 plays and Coldplay with ‘Viva La Vida’ at 15,577 plays.

MTV also reported a 71% increase year on year of viewing figures with an 83% increase in platinum awards.
