The holiday season is upon us again and in festive preparation bottles of spirits and liqueurs are flying from the shelves. We display them in our home bars, we give them as gifts, and then we realize - we have no idea what to do with them.
Fear of creating an uninspiring cocktail often leaves us with the temptation to ‘bottle it’. But you might be surprised to find out that many popular cocktails are quick and easy to shake up…and you probably have all the kit you need already.
New research released today shows the average Brit has four bottles of spirits at home, while a third of people have a cocktail shaker, a quarter have martini glasses and half have high ball glasses.
But while many of us have all the ingredients and equipment we need to create classy cocktails in the comfort of our own kitchens, it seems we have all the gear but no idea when it comes to mixing.
According to the study, 40% of us don’t know how to mix our favourite drinks, which is probably why nearly 90% of us prefer to serve beer or wine at home instead of spirits.
But given some guidance, a third of us say we would love to learn more about mixing drinks and find out what can be created with some of those unused bottles of spirits just lying around the house.
Well, one man who knows all about creating the most delicious and innovative drinks is mixologist Giles Looker from Soul Shakers. He has joined with Southern Comfort to provide us with some much needed inspiration, and confidence, to brush the dust off those bottles and mix up some creative cocktails.
