Travel broadens chances of University place AND job prospects
A level students who miss out on a university place are being advised to take a Gap Year and boost their chances of employment or earn precious UCAS points to boost their chances of getting a place the following year.
At a time when money is tight and everyone is fighting for spare university places taking a gap year may seem like an expensive luxury but the reality, according to a survey of employers released today, is that travel doesn’t just broaden the mind it broadens your employment prospects.
The research by Real Gap Experience shows that university education is becoming less of a draw for employers with only one in five now looking for this first on a CV.
And over 40 percent say that the increasing costs of university education means non academic qualifications are more important to them than they were 10 years ago.
For those who do miss out on a place, or are leaving Uni and wondering what to do next, the survey shows that one in five employers now say the fact that applicants have travelled positively influences their decision to interview.
But students set on a university place are being advised they can also boost their chances of gaining a Uni place the following year as teenagers can put experiences learned during a Gap Year towards a Certificate of Personal Effectiveness – equivalent to an A grade at AS level
