ANTM 13 - Get involved in this week’s online challenge!

This week it’s interesting locations!

Season 13, Mondays at 9PM on LIVING

In last week’s episode of ANTM13, it was interviews for all as the girls meet entertainment professionals, Ant and Lara Spencer. They mentored the girls on correspondent techniques, teaching them the number one fundamental; being able to think on your feet.

Their challenge was to interview Jessica Lowndes from 90210, and to make things harder, their autocue was deliberately stopped mid-interview! Erin wins the interview challenge, and picks Rae and Jennifer to join her on a magazine editorial shot.

Cycle 12’s winner Teyona met the girls at the shoot for the CoverGirl commercial, and encouraged them for their upcoming performances. Jennifer stood out at the shoot for being naturally charming, Laura stayed positive despite her dyslexic worries, yet confident Erin ended up fighting back her tears.

At judging, Rae and Erin landed in the bottom two; Erin for being over emotional, and Rae for being bland and forgettable. In the end, it is Rae who was fading in the background, and eliminated.

The latest online challenge for America’s Next Top Model 13 was a makeover on half of your face and Daniela Motoianu was chosen as the lucky winner. You can check out her winning image at www.antmchallenge.com

In the next upcoming episode the girls are flown to Hawaii for their shoot on location. And although you might not be able to get to Hawaii yourself, ANTM would like you to think about your location for the next online challenge.

For this week they want to see your model poses in an interesting location. Think about the surroundings, the light and how you interact with the background.

STI tests now a bigger milestone than meeting the parents
Forget meeting friends and family, frank discussions about the importance of being tested for STIs such as chlamydia have come to define lasting love in the 21st century.

A new poll has revealed that 70% of young adults rank discussing STI testing with their partner as the biggest indicator that the relationship will last. This is more important than traditional milestones such as meeting the parents (66%) or friends (40%).

However, while people aspire to have open and honest conversations with new sexual partners, many get tongue-tied and 73% have never actually raised the subject with a new partner before having sex for the first time.

How do you broach the topic with your partner without causing embarrassment? And why is this so important? Chlamydia is the most commonly diagnosed STI among under-25s, and if left untreated chlamydia can lead to serious health problems and may cause infertility in both men and women.

Worryingly, chlamydia is often symptomless, and the only way you can find out if you have it is to say ‘yes’ to a free Chlamydia test if you are offered one by a GP, nurse or pharmacist.

That’s why it’s extremely important you and your partner feel comfortable discussing these subjects. Whether you have been together a long time or this is a new relationship, it’s important to talk about sexual health and it doesn’t need to be a daunting conversation.

In the following video, Dr Catherine Hood, GP and relationship expert, runs through her tips for talking about STI testing and chlamydia. She also chats to two young people about how easy they found the discussion and the chlamydia test itself.

Paris Hilton cameos in tonight’s episode of Supernatural!

Sam and Dean decide to start hunting together again and their first case leads them to a small town whose inhabitants are being killed by famous dead icons like Abraham Lincoln and James Dean’s car. However, after two teenage girls come forward and claim their friend was kidnapped by PARIS HILTON (in a cameo role as herself); the brothers aren’t sure what they are hunting anymore.

The squads are confirmed and it’s kick-off time on Sky1 HD’s brand new comedy quiz show. BAFTA®-winning Gavin & Stacey star James Corden referees the wacky challenge of sporting knowledge as two teams of comedians, sports stars, and celebrity sports fans compete against each other.

Former Liverpool star and Sky Sports football pundit Jamie Redknapp captains the red team as they take on England cricketing hero Freddie Flintoff’s blue team. Joining Redknapp as a regular panelist is comedian John Bishop, while Sky Sports News presenter Georgie Thompson lines up for Flintoff’s blues.

This first episode kicks off the series with an hour-long special featuring world heavyweight boxing champion David Haye, and the voice of Bob the Builder and man behaving badly, Neil Morrissey.

Across three rounds, the teams’ sporting knowledge is put to the ultimate test. A League Of Their Own takes its cue from sports fans’ obsession with lists and stats and the first round sees the teams arrange three possible answers into their order of preference. This week’s questions include: Who has the most tattoos - Maradona, David Haye or Chris Hoy?

The second round, Guest List, challenges the teams to come with up with the same answers a famous sports star has given in response to a question about their profession, and tonight the questions are all about The Hayemaker himself. What does David Haye think are the three best things about being a boxer?

The third and deciding round, Human Clock, is the ultimate test of knowledge and stamina. Two team members must answer quick-fire questions for as long as the third teammate can sustain a physical challenge. This week, John Bishop and Neil Morrissey go head-to-head as they don weighted skull caps in a chin-up challenge.

It’s red v blue, Redknapp v Flintoff, and no one wants to be on the losing side. Who’ll have the last laugh and claim victory, proving they’re truly in a league of their own?

Guests confirmed to appear in the rest of the series include Amir Khan, Jimmy Carr, Alastair Campbell, Ruth Jones, Claudia Winkleman, Matt Le Tissier, Dara O’Briain and Steve Harmison.

ANTM 13 – this week it’s a makeover challenge with a twist!

In last week’s episode of ANTM13 it was go-see week and the short aspiring models dashed to their appointments in pairs. Equipped with a map and car, each pair had to navigate through the streets of Los Angeles, meeting with potential clients that could help launch their careers.

Amongst the regular Go-see’s, there was an audition for a commercial, which most of the girls had a hard time handling. Kara lost out at the jewellery designer, as she doesn’t have pierced ears, where as Jennifer was criticised for wearing too much make-up. During the commercial casting, Laura left a lasting, yet wrong impression with her “hood rat” accent, and Brittany was criticised for being too robotic. However Nicole stood out during the shoot, making up for the prior week’s bad performance and as a surprise to some, she was declared the winner, rewarded with clothing from each designer, as well as starring in the commercial she auditioned for.

At the photo shoot, the girls posed as flying-high fashionable Samurais, lifted into the air upon a harness whilst holding the martial arts weapon of their choice. At judging, Kara and Sundai ended up in the bottom two and Kara was eliminated for her consecutive appearance at the bottom.

In this week’s episode we see the models star in a cosmetics commercial.
So naturally this week’s challenge is all about make up. We want you to send in a head shot of you showing off your best make up artistry, but this challenge has a twist.

We want to see the transformation for ourselves, so one side of your face needs to be without makeup and then the other side of your face needs to be made up as if you are heading out for a glam night out.

It is all in the SMILE – but what does yours say about you?

Whilst a whopping 93% of women smile just appear to be friendly, 50% of UK men use their smile to attract the opposite sex. So when smiling girls, think about what you are trying to say – as men may well be thinking that you have romance on your mind.

According to Judi James, one of the UK’s leading body language experts, “Women tend to smile more than men for social approval which is probably why their smiles can be perceived as less reliable and more often as a flirt signal.” And when it comes to women smile preferences, Cheryl Cole has knocked Julia Roberts off of the top spot for the smile they would most like to have, according to a recent survey released by Juvederm® ULTRA SMILE. Julia is now in second place with Angelina Jolie coming third.

For men, Will Smith, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are the top three preferences.

According to Judi James, our smiles reveal more about our characters than previously thought and analyses the favourite celebrity smiles below:

Cheryl Cole: the congruent, symmetric smile:
Cheryl’s a good example of the perfect congruent smile that ticks every box in terms of smile psychology. Her smile is evenly shaped and spread which would make it appear genuine. Her wide top and bottom lips aren’t compromised by over-stretching; they retain their softened shape, which suggests warmth and sexuality. Her teeth are perfect, suggesting good health and her dimples add the irresistible factor. Dimples tend to have a child like appeal but also imply a person is a frequent smiler, suggesting a happy, calm and caring personality.

Julia Roberts: the pseudo-infantile, infectious smile:
Julia’s mouth has an extraordinarily beautiful lip shape with a very wide, upturned top lip. When she smiles her mouth stretches wide displaying top and bottom teeth but her top lip retains this bias, making it a smile that projects both sensuality and a childlike sense of excitement and happiness. It’s the look of childlike spontaneity that makes this smile so infectious. It would be hard to look at it without smiling yourself.

Megan Fox: the circular pout:
Like Marilyn Monroe, Megan seems to have perfect an ‘O’-shaped mouth expression, forming a smile that includes parted lips with a semi-pout but without too much horizontal stretching. Her lips appear wide all the way round and she tends to accentuate this with deep-coloured lipstick. This makes it one of the most sexual smiles with an almost challenging display of teeth.

Angelina Jolie: the nurturing smile:
Angelina has one of the most iconic pair of lips in the business: full and sensual with a perma-pout top lip. It’s this ‘kiss’ lip expression that she’s mainly known for, but when she smiles she engages in a whole different form of body language messaging. Although her smile retains a softened lip expression the top lip narrows while the bottom lip becomes more prominent and noticeable. This creates a smile that is less about sex and more about a nurturing sense of warmth and friendliness.

Victoria Beckham: the suppressed smile:
Victoria is best known for her pouting mouth expression with rumours that she rarely if ever smiles. In fact her smile is quite sweet and childlike although she does tend to temper it by keeping her lips closed or her teeth clenched edge-to-edge, implying inner tensions. This suppressed smile can look like a short-fall gesture, as though she has the intention of smiling but without a spontaneous sense of real happiness. This closed-lip smile looks pretty but by keeping the top lip down she also creates muscle tension that thins the top lip. This makes her smile appear less balanced and more secretive.

Scarlet Johansson: the short-fall smile:
Scarlet’s famous red-carpet smile involves beautiful symmetry in terms of her display of equally wide upper and lower lip with the matching size of tooth display. Her equally full lips create a very youthful look and although the ‘pinging’ effect means she can virtually turn it on at will for the cameras without looking false. The very slight downturn at the corners of her mouth helps to prevent the smile looking too cheesy.

Will Smith: the colluding smile:
Will’s smile is irresistible: wide and symmetric but also slightly unfinished, implying he’s sharing a joke with the viewer, rather than performing alone. The smile is vertically wide in the middle but not very stretched at the sides and it’s the slight downturn at the corners of his mouth that implies he’s asking you to join in the fun.

George Clooney: the pinging smile:
This is one of the best pinging smiles in the business: you wait for it, he flashes it and the women go weak at the knees. He’s known to bare his teeth but it’s this suppressed, closed-lip look that is his most iconic. Although his mouth is shut it’s that exaggerated upturn at the edges that implies he’s clever, sexy and fun.

Brad Pitt: the boyish smile:
Brad’s smile will still be making him look like a teenager when he’s well into middle age. The straight but soft top lip and dropped wider lower lip display both perfect upper teeth plus a whole raft of dimples. Strong dimpling in a man suggests an irresistibly cheeky and fun personality.

No matter what your smile ‘type’, lips are growing in importance in 2010, as expressed by Dr Rita Rakus who says: ‘I truly believe that when looking to enhance your smile it’s important to think about your lips as well as your teeth. ANTM 13 – Get fierce with this week’s online challenge!

In last week’s episode of America’s Next Top Model 13 Benny Ninja was back! The professional poser taught the girls how to use their bodies, instead of just their faces, to express emotion. The girls collaborated in groups of three, performing expressive dance to convey emotions, despite their faces being covered by masks. Rae, Kara and Jennifer came out on top, winning $17,000 worth of jewellery, bling bling!

At judging, Jennifer, Kara, Ashley and Nicole got bad critiques for failing to stand out and lack of focus. The judges loved Rae and Laura’s photos, and it was Kara and Ashley who landed in the bottom two. In the end Ashley was eliminated, for lack of enthusiasm, and power in her photos.

BREAKING NEWS!! The next online challenge for America’s Next Top Model has been announced and this week it’s all about posing with a friend!

In the latest episode of ANTM13 the cover girl challenge saw the girls racing against each other (literally, running!), whilst doing their make-up and styling. During the race, the girls had to find their photo from a bin, and when Erin hid Ashley’s, she was more than a little displeased! In fact, Erin’s competitive nature upset most of the girls, as she pushed past the others to get in front. Yet despite Erin’s efforts, it was Sundai who won and was awarded a $1000 voucher! On the way to the photo shoot, Bianca and Ashley confronted Erin on her “dirty” game play, which caused Erin to cry!

At judging, Kara and Erin were criticised for their lack of personality but it was Ashley and Bianca who landed in the bottom two. After weeks of trying to improve, Bianca still couldn’t get her softer side to shine through, and she was sent home.

Our last online challenge was all about statement accessories and Tessa Beecroft was chosen as the lucky winner for her clever photo of her modelling a bow using her hair!

This week on our favourite show, we see the models learn how to pose in teams. Often in shoots and fashion shows, models have to work with a partner. So naturally, the next ANTM challenge is posing with a friend.

This week we want you to grab one of your fiercest fashionista friends, find a location and strike a pose. Put together your coolest/craziest/fiercest look just like we did with the girls. That means big hair, dramatic makeup and killer clothes. Have fun with it!

Supernatural Season 5 launches on LIVING tonight at 9pm!

The fifth series of hit US drama Supernatural will premiere exclusively in the UK on LIVING, the home of paranormal drama. Already boasting a loyal UK fan base, the highly anticipated series chronicles the adventures of demon hunters Sam and Dean Winchester as they journey through small town America in a bid to rid the world of demonic forces.

Twenty-six years ago, Sam (Jared Padalecki- Gilmore Girls, Friday the 13^th) and Dean (Jensen Ackles - Smallville, My Bloody Valentine 3D) Winchester lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic paranormal force. From then on, their father raised them to be soldiers, teaching them about the numerous forms of evil that exists within the darkest corners and on the back roads of America. Their father also taught them how to kill the unearthly life forms. Now, the Winchester brothers crisscross the lonely and mysterious back roads of the country in their ‘67 Chevy Impala hunting down every evil supernatural force they encounter along the way.

The fourth season of the paranormal drama ended on a series defining high as Sam unwittingly opened the gates of hell and freed Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino – Lost). Now alongside his older brother Dean, the demon-hunting Winchester boys must face their toughest battle yet, the apocalypse.

Series five kicks off with an explosive double bill, as the brothers prepare for the inevitable; meeting the devil face to face. But at the very moment, Sam and Dean are suddenly transported onto an incredibly turbulent flight. Could this mysterious outcome be the work of angels? Sam and Dean’s devil dodging may have given them more time to continue their ultimate fight, but, in order to send the definitive bad-boy back into the depths of hell, the Winchesters must find the sword of Michelangelo before Lucifer and his cohorts beat them to it.

In the second part of LIVING’s Supernatural double bill, God has gone missing and with Lucifer lapping up his new found freedom, it’s up to the fallen-angel Castiel (Misha Collins – 24, Nip Tuck) to search for the absent divinity. In a small Colorado town, Sam and Dean witness a chilling reality, the arrival of the first horseman of the Apocalypse.

The ultimate battle between good and evil continues on Supernatural, a UK exclusive on LIVING.

To promote series five, LIVING has created Fight the Apocalypse, an AR game which calls on Supernatural fans to mobilise their armies and join the fight against Lucifer. The AR game is based around collecting hidden symbols – ‘Enochian Sigils’ (which players must locate, photograph and send via MMS to the campaign shortcode).

This week’s online challenge is all about

‘Statement Accessories’

Season 13, Mondays at 9PM on LIVING

Hooked on Season 13 of America’s Next Top Model on LIVING? As the season continues next Monday at 9pm we’ve got news of the latest online challenge for you!

In Monday’s episode the girls were introduced to 9-year-old runway model Diva Davanna, who proved you don’t have to be tall, to walk tall! Miss J taught them runways techniques, which were put to the test at a Malibu fashion show, where the girls had to walk next to a model 5′10″ or above. The warehouse photo shoot had the girls using elements of the set and their outfits, to elongate themselves.

Brittany and Lulu found themselves in the bottom two, and despite being one of the tallest models at 5’7, Lulu was sent home for her poor performance in front of the lens. Next week a CoverGirl challenge will see the girls racing against each other (literally!), whilst doing their make-up and styling.

So for the fourth ANTM challenge they want to see you wearing statement accessories. We all love accessories and every model has to be able to show them off, be it bags, belts, scarves or jewellery. This week ANTM want you to upload your photos - either full length or headshots of you styling one of the 5 statement accessories that will be the ‘must haves’ this season.

Hooked on Season 13 of America’s Next Top Model on LIVING? As the season continues next Monday at 9pm we’ve got news of the latest online challenge for you!

In Monday’s episode, the pressure was on, as Wilhelmina Models President Sean Patterson (the winner’s boss!) interviewed each girl, with the help of ANTM favourite, Nigel Barker. Lulu failed to impress Nigel, stating she loves fashion, but not photographers! Nigel expresses his concern over Jennifer’s eye condition Ptosis, where as the pressure is too much for musical Rachel, who freezers when asked to perform. In a shock to all, Sean Patterson sends Rachel home, a lesson learnt; first impressions count!

Next week the girls try to elongate themselves in a variety of poses, and learn techniques to help themselves “walk tall” on the runway. Learning how to walk tall is one of the most important skills for a model to master. So for the third ANTM challenge they want to see you strut your stuff.

This time ANTM would like you to send in a video (rather than stills) at www.antmchallenge.com of your fiercest runway walk. So unleash your inner diva and work it ladies!

When filming your entry get a friend to help or make sure the camera is in a fixed position. Walk towards it, turn and walk away. Make sure your clip is under a minute long.

Here are ANTM’s top five tips for perfecting a walk that would make Miss Jay proud.

BE CONFIDENT

There is nothing sexier than being comfortable in your skin. Love the person you are and embrace any and everything that you consider flaws.

FLAUNT YOUR PERSONAL STYLE

It’s great to be fashionable, but always wear what makes you feel good. Let your personality shine through in your wardrobe.

POSTURE

Watch your posture. You must create beautiful lines with your body. Elongate your neck and keep your shoulders back. Hold your head high. Use your core.

LEAD WITH YOUR HIPS

Lead with your hips as you walk in a straight line crossing one foot in front of the other.

BE COMFORTABLE IN HEELS

You must make the walk look natural and effortless. Make sure to get comfortable in heels. Otherwise, you’ll appear awkward when you walk like a runway model.)
