APRIL 29th: GIRLS ALOUD AND BOBBY DAVRO

I was quite impressed to see that Girls Aloud were asked to entertain at property billionaire Eddie Healey's 70th birthday bash, the party was held at the Dorchester Hotel, a fortune was spent on the best food and booze, it seems that no expense was spared and a whopping £475,000 was splashed out on nothing but the best, then why Girls Aloud I hear you say, which I must admit was my first reaction.  They were paid a whopping £125,000 (£25,000 each) to perform, at this point I’m still impressed, impressed that is until I found out that the other “celebrities” hired to entertain on the night were Russ Abbot and Bobby Davro.

If your wondering what that hissing raspberry type noise is, that’s my “impressed” balloon deflating rapidly.

Can you imagine how you would feel, you’re the top girl group in the UK, you’ve been asked to perform at a billionaire’s private party at a top location, you walk in the door and find that you’re headlining with a couple of 1980’s has beens whose career highlights these days are appearing in Panto in Blackpool or Brighton. Now stop laughing it’s not funny, and before you say it, I know Bobby D is currently appearing in Eastenders but lets face it, aren’t the soaps the place where washed-up entertainers go to die?

I can see it now, Sarah Harding trying to duet with Russ Abbot on a remixed version of “Oh What An Atmosphere” while Bobby Davro is in corner stage trying desperately to revive his one and only impression of Claire Raynor, oh how the crowds must have roared, mind you for 25 grand I’d juggle hedgehogs on stage with Cannon and Ball, my god I’ll do anything for cold hard cash.
